// OSI LAYER 8 — THE HUMAN LAYER

The work your software won't do, automated.

Layer Eight Systems builds the automations small businesses — and busy individuals — actually need: connecting your tools, killing the copy-paste, and putting an AI assistant on the boring stuff. Layer 8 is the human layer. That's the part we automate.

// WHAT WE DO

Four ways to take work off your plate

Most small businesses — and plenty of individuals — run on a stack of tools and a stack of manual steps holding them together. We replace the manual steps.

01 / 04

Workflow & process automation

Repetitive manual steps — data entry, file shuffling, reminders, approvals — handled automatically and reliably.

02 / 04

App & tool integrations

Make the tools you already pay for talk to each other. QuickBooks, Shopify, your CRM, Google Workspace — one connected flow.

03 / 04

AI agents & assistants

Custom AI for the judgment work: triaging email, reading documents, drafting replies, and answering customers.

04 / 04

Custom dashboards & reporting

Your numbers in one place, updated on their own. Stop rebuilding the same spreadsheet every week.

Built on patterns proven in production

You own everything

Every automation, its code, and your data — documented and handed to you. No lock-in, ever.

Straight from the engineer

You work directly with the person who builds it. No account managers, no ticket queue.

Runs on your terms

Self-hosted on your own infrastructure when you want it, with no mandatory subscriptions.

// HOW IT WORKS

A clear path from bottleneck to handed-off

No mystery, no lock-in. You always know what's happening and you own what we build.

  1. 01

    Discover

A short call to understand the business, the bottleneck, and what 'done' looks like. No jargon, no upsell.

  2. 02

    Map the human layer

We document the manual process exactly as it happens today — every click, hand-off, and exception — so nothing gets lost in automation.

  3. 03

    Automate

We build it, test it against real cases, and roll it out incrementally so your team is never left guessing.

  4. 04

    Hand off & monitor

You get documentation, ownership, and monitoring. We're around when something changes — but you're never locked in.

Questions worth answering up front

What does “Layer 8” mean?+

In networking, the OSI model has 7 layers — and engineers joke that “layer 8” is the human layer: the people and processes on top of the technology. That's exactly the layer we automate.

Do you only work with businesses?+

Small businesses are the main focus, but no. If you're an individual buried in repetitive busywork — a side hustle, freelance admin, or just your own day-to-day — the same approach applies. If a task is repetitive, it can probably be automated.

Do I have to change the tools I use?+

Almost never. The goal is to make your existing tools work better together. We meet your business where it is rather than forcing a migration.

Who owns the automations and the data?+

You do. Everything can run on your own infrastructure, and you get documentation and ownership of what we build. No lock-in.

How long does a typical project take?+

Small automations often ship in 1–2 weeks. Larger integrations or AI work run a few weeks. We scope it precisely after the discovery call.

What happens after I submit the intake form?+

You'll hear back within one business day to schedule a short discovery call. The intake just helps that first conversation be useful instead of generic.
